What had happened?

According to The Times Of India, the woman, a native of Andhra Pradesh was married to a man from Tiruvallur. On March 14, the woman went missing with the child and two days later her husband filed a complaint at the police station.

Upon contacting the woman’s parents, the police learnt that she did not even reach her house. On March 26, the woman returned to her house with the child. The police officer said, “On Thursday, the child fell ill and was admitted to a government hospital in the city. The doctor after examination found that the girl was sexually abused and informed police.”

Upon questioning, the woman confessed that she had gone to meet her lover, 32-year-old Siva in Andhra, along with her relative. The two men had then sexually abused the child for 10 days, with the mother’s consent. The woman and two men have been remanded in judicial custody.

This is not an isolated incident as there have been cases in the past where the victim faced torture at the hands of their own family members. Cases of child sex abuse seem to be rising with each passing day, especially in India. A house for a child is supposed to be a safe haven for them. However, cases like this show that children are not “safe” even in the comfort of their houses.
