PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi honour Nehru on death anniversary

Jawaharlal Nehru died on May 27, 1964. A major event such as this inevitably gives rise to “where were you?” questions. Where were you when Kennedy was assassinated? Where were you when Indira Gandhi was killed? Where were you when the World Trade Centre was brought down? The shock of the event magnifies the immediate around you and imprints it in your mind

This revisit on Nehru’s early years, his rise in Congress echelon, manipulation at the time of independence to PM’s seat, his shaping of Hindu Civil Code etc are now being fiercely ripped out in open. I would presently concentrate on two of his actions which have put India’s eastern and western borders in permanent strife. I am of course referring to Pt. Nehru’s conduct during the incursion of Pakistani raiders in Kashmir in 1947 and the disastrous China War of 1962.

The first prime minister of India, Pandit Nehru died on May 27, 1964.
He became the prime minister on August 15, 1947, following an active role in the freedom struggle of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 54th death anniversary. While PM Modi took to microblogging site Twitter to pay homage to Nehru, the Gandhi scion paid floral tributes at Shanti Van in the national capital.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee and ex-prime minister Manmohan Singh also visited Shanti Van, the memorial of Pandit Nehru, and paid homage to the leader. Former vice president Hamid Ansari also paid floral tributes.
