Reports inform that the adverse police report does not stand ground as Government notification of May 21 clearly says police verification is done only to ascertain nationality and to check whether the applicant has any criminal record and it’s not done to check name or address.
Regional Passport Officer Piyush Verma toldInquilab Timesthat according to new verification rules that came into effect on June 1, adverse reports cannot be filed on the basis of a person’s address. “We have cleared the passport of Tanvi Seth…No adverse report was filed by police on the six points mentioned in the new format,” Sharma said.
