Mahira joins the list of many female-centric films that are being made in Sandalwood lately. This ambitious thriller tries to incorporate storytelling akin to some of the female-centric fugitive thrillers seen in the West. The idea behind the story is nice. The film has some good moments too. But the film falls slightly short in terms of energy that one expects to see in a thrilling narrative like this. The emotional drama sometimes overpowers the thrill that one seeks in a story like this.

That said, Mahira is novel and ambitious. The film tries to include some interesting chase and fight sequences. While the initial conflict sets up an interesting premise for thriller, the tale becomes rather diluted and the climax ends up being a tad underwhelming, given the impact that it could have ideally had. This also could be from the fact that the negative leads end up being just caricatures.
