WhatsApp registers a new domain name ‘wa.me’

WhatsApp has registered a new domain ‘www.wa.me’ which lets users open the chat window of a particular contact without visiting the app. Users can type the URL ‘https://wa.me/(contact phone number)’ in their browser which is available on Android version 2.18.138. However, if the phone number entered by the user is invalid, WhatsApp will send a notification for the same

How does this new feature work?

To use this link, type https://wa.me/phone number of the contact you want the send the text to. You will be directed to the chat straight away. If the phone number entered by you is invalid, WhatsApp will notify you.

The Facebook-owned chat app is also working on to make the platform more fun and engaging. Hence, the chat company has introduced a new Top emoji feature that shows you the most searched emoji by you at the top. Then the company is also working on double stickers for both iOS and Android. This feature will allow the user to send two emojis together at one time.

Further, keeping the recent privacy manhandling scandals in view, WhatsApp is working on a new feature to allow users to download all WhatsApp data. This is said to be in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will be introduced by the European Union (EU) in May. Many users have already started seeing this feature. Under the Account settings, WhatsApp users will see a new option called Request account info. “Create a report of your WhatsApp account information and settings, which you can access or port to another app. This report does not include your messages,” reads the report. Tap on Request report and you will be delivered a report in a day or two.
