Shashi Tharoor accused in the Sunanda Pushkar death case
New Delhi: The Delhi court has summoned Congress leader Shashi Tharoor as accused in the Sunanda Pushkar death case on July 7.
There exists sufficient grounds to proceed against Tharoor for commission of offences in the case, the Court said.
Mr Tharoor, a parliamentarian from Kerala, has also been accused of cruelty to his wife, in the police charge-sheet submitted in court last month.
The charge-sheet was filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmender Singh at the Patiala House court. Police have concluded that it was a case of suicide and not murder. The FIR in the case was filed under section 302 IPC.
Mr Tharoor has called the charges “preposterous” and the Congress has called the charge-sheet “politically-motivated”.
Mr Tharoor is the only person named as an accused in the 3,000-page chargesheet.
51-year-old Sunanda Pushkar’s death took place days after she took to social media to accuse her husband of having an affair with a Pakistani journalist.
